Rewind

I was just wondering when the last time I posted a photo set in which my outfit was mostly secondhand - it took me way too long to scroll through my blog to find one.

All of my favorite outfits have been mostly or completely thrifted - I really really need to start being more creative. Hopefully only buying secondhand clothing will help renew my creativity!

Here are some of my favorite mostly thrifted outfits:

Revitalization

Hello all,

After spending the first half of my summer traveling the world, I have used the last month to relax, unwind and think. A lot. The majority of my thinking has been centered around my lifestyle and how I can improve it. I've come up with a lot of ways, and one of them includes spending much much less time and energy on encouraging consumerism.

I've been gradually setting up/moving into my new apartment near my school, and in the process I've come to realize how much stuff I own. So so much. It's actually incredible - I flew to NY from Missouri last August - I only brought one suitcase with me. In less than a year my possessions have become so numerous that I have managed to fill the biggest closet in my new apartment and I still don't have enough room for everything.

I don't even shop that much - it may come as a surprise, as I'm a fashion blogger, but I honestly don't buy a lot of clothes. When I do buy clothes I am incredibly cheap - I generally only buy things on sale or things from thrift stores in Missouri - really really cheap ones.

I don't even quite understand how I've acquired so much stuff in the past year, but I am making it my goal to get rid of everything that I don't need. This includes a large amount of clothes that I never even wear.

I will no longer be accepting free clothes that I don't need from companies that I've never even heard of. I will still post outfits, but I will only wear secondhand clothing (and the clothing I already own) in my posts. I can't give up my love of styling outfits for myself, but I can give up the wasteful lifestyle that comes along with it and I can promote an alternative lifestyle - one that doesn't destroy the planet as quickly.

In the last month I've also made another massive life decision. I've decided to become a vegan. I'm not doing this for health reasons. I gave up eating meat about two and a half years ago, and I will never eat meat again. I don't believe in harming other beings - I don't even kill insects anymore because I think it's wrong. My becoming a vegan is not so much a personal ethical decision but a form of political protest - I will no longer stand for the way that farm animals are treated in the world - particularly in the United States. I will do everything I can to oppose the system of factory farming, starting with the food that I put into my mouth. I will likely turn this blog into a hybrid fashion-food blog so that I can have an outlet for discussing these two enormous changes that I'll be making in my life.

Rainy Days

sweater: c/o Banggood, dress: c/o Lulu*s, oxfords: c/o Le Bunny Bleu, bag and belt: thrifted, socks: Target

My mom came to visit me and we've taken a little trip to upstate NY/canada! I've never been to canada, and I'm really excited! We're going to stop by Niagara Falls along the way (another place I've never been). Anyway, she took these photos for me. Thanks, mom!

I'm wearing my new shiny gold oxfords that I recently got in the mail c/o Le Bunny Bleu, and I am so obsessed. I love anything shiny at the moment, so I was really excited when I got these.

Enjoy! We're off to Niagara Falls!

Life

...has been absolutely insane for the last few weeks. I deeply apologize for my lack of posts, but I promise - PROMISE! - that I will take photos this weekend. :)

The weather is finally getting nice here. I am so excited. Also, I'm going to Zambia in a month and 3 days.

This photo is from last summer - I can't believe that almost a year has passed since I started this blog. So much has changed since then, and so much will change in the next year. I'm excited. :)

Come Fly Away

top: urban outfitters, jeans: thrifted, boots: H&M, sunglasses: street vendor

My sister took these photos as well. I have had these jeans for months but they are so large on me that I have to wear them perfectly or they look a bit like they're eating me. I love them though!

Does anyone have plans for St. Paddy's day?

It's that time again - time for me to apologize for my absence. I am terribly sorry, but for the last few weeks my boyfriend has been visiting me! We had an absolutely lovely Christmas together and I'm sad that he's gone back home now, but it means that I have more time for my other relationship again - my blog!

I hope that everyone had a perfect holiday season - I definitely did, and I'm sad but excited to be going back to New York on Monday to begin the new semester. First, however, here's a recap of my last few weeks in photos:

Martin and I headed to St. Louis for a few days one weekend to visit my sister - first we stopped at the Budweiser brewery and got a free tour and lots of free beer!

Then we went to the City Museum in St. Louis, which I definitely recommend for anyone who is a child at heart - it is not your typical museum, but is filled with random found objects from St. Louis, formed into caves, slides and ladders that you can peruse as you wish. It was simply amazing.

We also visited the "Gateway to the West" - the St. Louis arch! We went to the top and took photos looking out of the tiny windows, thousands of feet above the ground. The previous day's snow was melting, but we got there in time to see a lovely proposal written in the snow - must have been so romantic! Here is the view from the top, anyway.

The rest of the time we just lounged around and took funny Photobooth pictures on my laptop!
